Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure
How EcoEnergyCalc makes money, and why it doesn't change what we tell you.
How This Site Makes Money
EcoEnergyCalc is free to use and always will be. To cover hosting and the time spent building and maintaining calculators, the site may earn revenue through advertising and affiliate partnerships. Some links on this site — for example, links to solar installers, home service providers, or products we mention in an article — may be affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, sign up, or take another qualifying action, we may earn a commission. This costs you nothing extra; affiliate commissions are paid by the company on the other end of the link, not added to your price.
The site may also display advertising served through ad networks such as Google AdSense. Ad networks may use cookies to show ads based on your browsing activity; see our Privacy Policy for details on cookies and opting out.
Editorial Independence
Revenue does not influence what we write or which brands, products, or programs we mention. We don't accept payment in exchange for a favorable review, a specific ranking, or removing accurate but unflattering information. If a product or program isn't a good fit for most households, we say so, whether or not we have an affiliate relationship with the company behind it.
We also don't hand-pick advertisers or accept sponsored placements that would bias a calculator's results toward a particular brand.
Calculator Results Are Never Affiliate-Influenced
Every calculator on this site computes its results from public data and established formulas — utility rate data from the EIA, emissions factors from the EPA, efficiency guidelines from the DOE, and similar sources (see our About page for the full list). No calculator adjusts its output, assumptions, or recommendations based on which company we may have an affiliate relationship with. If a calculator suggests solar, a heat pump, or any other purchase might be worth it for your situation, that conclusion comes from the numbers you entered and public data — not from a partner relationship.
Why We're Telling You This
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission requires clear disclosure when a website may earn money from the links or recommendations it makes. We think that's a reasonable rule even where it isn't required, so we're disclosing it here plainly: some links on this site may earn us a commission, our reviews and recommendations are not for sale, and our calculators run on public data regardless of any partnership. If you ever notice something on this site that seems to contradict that, please tell us — see below.
